Take Your Students on a Train Tour of the USA Regions
Including the Northeast, South, West, and Midwest

Print the following notebook to have students record information and create a scrapbook about each stop along the way.

Regions Notebook Cover
Regions Notebook Pages
Train Tickets For Each Region

Prepare materials:

  1. Create a regions notebook/scrapbook for each child.  Print the cover and notebook pages provided on this site.  You may wish to add blank pages to the notebook for students to create a scrapbook page for each stop visited along the tour.
  2. Print tickets.
  3. Plan lessons(you will need to plan your own lessons for the locations you wish to teach about) for at least three places in each region.
**This website contains some examples of virtual tours for a few locations that you may wish to use: http://www.freewebs.com/jaimejoyh/index.htm

Example Lesson:

Introduction:

Tell students that they will be going on a train tour of the USA!  Pass out train tickets for that region.  Have students label the departure and arrival information.  Let students listen to a train whistle sound as they begin the lesson.

Development:

Have students view a virtual tour of the Hershey Factory in Hershey PA.  After viewing the tour, they record information that they learned at Stop 1 in their notebook and draw an illlustration.  Additonally, have them make a scrapbook page containing information about PA.  I have students glue their train ticket to their scrapbook page also.
